Our Commitment to Community
The Ibalon spirit doesn't stop at our guests — it extends to the communities and coastlines that make every journey possible.
People who give gifts to bring home
Our name, Ibalon, means “people who are hospitable and give visitors gifts to bring home.” That belief shapes more than our tours. Since 1996 we have worked to give back to the Bicolano communities at the heart of what we do — and we take that responsibility seriously, returning to the same causes year after year.
Our community programmes
Giving back isn't a one-off for us — it's a yearly commitment to the families and children of our community. These are a few of the ways we show up, again and again.
Back-to-School Supplies Drive
At the start of every school year we hand out school supplies to children in the community — notebooks, pens, and bags to help them begin the year ready to learn.
Free Haircuts for the Community
We host free haircut days for children and parents alike — a simple, dignified way to help families look and feel their best at no cost.
Christmas Food Packs
Every Christmas we prepare and distribute food packs to families in need — so more households in our community can share a warm holiday meal.
…alongside other outreach and bayanihan activities we take on throughout the year.
Our areas of contribution
Responsible Tourism
We design trips that respect the places and people we visit — ethical wildlife interactions (the Donsol butanding, Oslob whale sharks), reef-safe practices, and a “leave no trace” rule on islands like Calaguas.
Community & Livelihoods
We hire local guides, boatmen, and drivers, buy from local carinderias and markets, and steer guests toward community-run services so tourism income stays where it's earned.
Environment & Coastlines
Coastal and river clean-ups, cutting single-use plastic on tours, and support for reforestation and reef protection in the areas we operate.
Disaster Response & Bayanihan
Bicol sits in the typhoon belt. We put our own fleet of buses, coasters, and vans to work moving relief goods and people when calamity strikes.
Education & Youth
Investing in the next generation through training and on-the-job placements — and, every year, our back-to-school supplies drive for children in the community.
Heritage & Culture
Championing Bicolano faith, craft, and story — from the Peñafrancia devotion to abaca weaving and Bikol cuisine — so our culture is celebrated and sustained.
Three decades of giving back
The community work we come back to, year after year.
Sending kids back to school ready
Our annual back-to-school supplies drive is closest to our heart. Each year as classes resume, our team gathers notebooks, pens, and bags and hands them to children in the community — easing the load on parents and giving every kid a confident start.
It's the Ibalon spirit at work: a small gift to bring home, and a big head start for a child.
