Bicol's most beautiful empty beach

Mahabang Buhangin — "long sand" — is the powder-white stretch that made Calaguas famous: a curve of fine sand and impossibly clear water off the coast of Camarines Norte. There are no resorts to speak of, no nightlife, no Wi-Fi to distract you. That is exactly the point.

The beach sits on Tinaga Island, part of the Calaguas group off Vinzons in Camarines Norte, and it is reached only by boat — a crossing of roughly one to two hours depending on the sea. That single fact is what has protected it. There is no grid power, no resort strip, and barely a signal bar; evenings run on generators and, mostly, on starlight.

This is camping in its purest and most rewarding form. We arrange the land transfer to the jump-off port, the boat crossing, your tent and beach camp, and a guide who knows the island — leaving you free to swim, walk the grassy headland above the bay, and watch a sky most city visitors have never actually seen.

When to go

The dry season (March–May) gives the calmest crossings and the best beach weather. Facilities on the island are basic — expect simple toilets and limited fresh water, and little to no mobile signal.

• Refillable water and any special food or snacks
• Headlamp or torch, power bank, and dry bag
• Reef-safe sunscreen, hat, and quick-dry clothes
