Naga Heritage Tour
The pilgrim heart of Bicol — centuries of faith, devotion, and Bicolano history, told by guides from the city itself.
The soul of the Bicol pilgrim city
Naga is the spiritual capital of Bicol — home to the devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia, whose September feast draws one of the largest Marian pilgrimages in Asia. But the city's story runs deeper than a single festival: in its cathedral, its centuries-old churches, and its old streets you can read the whole arc of Bicolano faith and history.
The devotion dates to 1710, and three centuries later it still shapes the city: the September feast closes with a fluvial procession down the Naga River, the banks packed shoulder to shoulder in the dark. The Porta Mariae was raised in 2010 to mark the tercentenary. A few streets away, the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral is the seat of the Archdiocese of Caceres — a diocese established in 1595, among the first in the country — and Plaza Quince Martires remembers the fifteen Bicolano martyrs of 1897.
Our heritage tour walks you through it with a local guide, at the pace of a city rather than a checklist — the grand basilica, the seminary quarter's quiet corners, and the food and pasalubong that make Naga a place visitors leave a little reluctantly. True to the Ibalon name, you'll go home with something to share.
