Taal, Tagaytay and Manila — heritage town and city sights
Client Itinerary · Luzon

Tagaytay, Batangas & Manila

A four-day itinerary opening with the Taal heritage town in Batangas, a day around Tagaytay, and closing with a Manila city tour.

The Experience

Ridge views, a heritage town, and the capital

A compact four days on the roads south of Manila, built around one of the most photographed views in the country and one of its least-visited great churches.

Tagaytay runs along a ridge some 600 metres above Taal Lake, and the air changes as you climb it. The classic view — the lake, the island, the crater inside it — is from the ridge itself, and that is where we plan around: access to Volcano Island depends on the alert level PHIVOLCS has in force, so we confirm what is open closer to your travel date. Bulalo, the marrow-bone beef soup the ridge is known for, is best eaten looking straight at it.

Down in Batangas, Taal is a heritage town most itineraries skip. Its Basilica of St. Martin of Tours is among the largest Catholic churches in Asia, and the streets around it are lined with ancestral houses, embroidery workshops and the barong makers who have supplied the country for generations.

The last leg is Manila — Intramuros and San Agustín Church, the UNESCO-listed oldest stone church in the Philippines, and the National Museum complex at Rizal Park, free to enter since 2016.

The route runs on our own DOT-accredited coaches with a Tierra de Ibalon coordinator travelling with the group.

Good to know

  • Tagaytay is noticeably cooler than Manila — bring a light jacket for the evenings.
  • Volcano Island access follows the PHIVOLCS alert level and can change at short notice; the ridge viewpoints are the reliable plan.
  • Modest dress is appreciated at the Taal basilica and the Intramuros churches.
  • Traffic on the Manila legs is unpredictable — the schedule builds in room for it.
